Whether you have a history of dating Latina women or it’s your first time, there’s a lot you need to know.
While the term Latina is very broad and the cultures within it unique, they also share a lot of similarities. In this article, we’re going to cover the six most important elements you need to know for dating Latina women as a whole.
Having dated several Latina women over the years, I can speak first hand to some of these differences. So long as you can handle a bold personality and are equipped to keep up, you’ll have as much fun as I did.
What you need to know about dating Latina women
A quick word of warning before I get started — don’t let this article or your own research paint all Latinas with the same brush. I’ll be talking in general terms here but “Latina” and “Latino” cover a lot of countries and cultures. No single article can possibly cover them all extensively.
Instead, use this as a starting point for what you need to know. From there, enjoy the process of getting to know her as an individual, just like you should with any other date.
1. Educate yourself and ask questions
The terms Latina and Latino (female and male, respectively) are American terms. Likewise, you should know the difference between Hispanic and Latina/Latino. For example, while “Latina” includes Brazil and not Spain, “Hispanic” includes Spain but not Brazil. “Spanish,” on the other hand, refers to people from Spain, not everyone who speaks Spanish. Knowing these distinctions can save you from some embarrassment!
Don’t be afraid to ask questions. So long as you’ve taken some time to understand the fundamentals, it’s a good thing to ask about her specifically.
As Modern Brown Girl pointed out, “The more interested and curious you are about our beliefs, values, and traditions, the more excited we’ll be to teach you and bring you to family events.”

2. Find the right dating app
Of course, if you’re looking to meet Latina women online, especially for older women, finding the right dating app or website is a must. With so many options available, there’s something out there that caters to exactly what you’re looking for. If you’re looking to specifically date Latina women, there are dedicated sites for that. Of course, if you’re just interested in dating and Latinas are only a part of that, the options are endless.
3. Get your confidence in check and look in the right places
Confidence is something all humans find attractive. When it comes to dating Latina women, it’s not just a helpful trait, it’s a must.
If there’s one generalization I’ve found to be true with most Latina women it’s that “Latina” and “introvert” rarely go in the same sentence.
If you’re the quiet, reserved type you might find that dating can be a lot to handle. She may also start to back away in search of someone who’s a better fit.
My suggestion? Take some time to work on yourself. Work on your own insecurities and build some more legitimate self-confidence. Once you have this, you’re going to find dating Latina women that much easier.
You also want to be smart about where you’re meeting women. There is a lot of generic advice out there but also some solid suggestions. Look for legitimate advice from people who know like this guide from Beyondages.com that has some great suggestions for meeting Latina cougars.
4. Be bold
Following on from this point, expect her to be a strong, bold personality. Things will work out best if you’re comfortable putting forward similar traits.
Right from the beginning, be bold and put yourself out there. This isn’t the time for shy, reserved questions and uncertainty. Show her that you’re forward, confident, and fun from day one and enjoy getting to know her.
5. Enjoy getting to know her family and culture
Another element Latina women are known for is the pride they take in their family and their culture.
Quite different from your average US family, Latina women tend to share a very close bond with their families. You can expect to hear about them often and be introduced to her family very quickly.
This isn’t something to be worried about. Her family is very important to her, and it’s normal that you’ll meet them earlier than you might be used to.
Embrace this experience, understand that they’re important to her, and make an effort to get to know them. You’ll learn a lot about the beliefs and values and what makes her who she is.
Not only will you understand better but she’ll appreciate you caring about the most important people in her life.
6. If you don’t speak the language, don’t use stereotypical words for her
This is a mistake I’ve seen friends make and it can be a little awkward. It applies to all languages and cultures of course and is very relevant here.
If you’re genuinely trying to learn Spanish or Portuguese, this is completely different. On the other hand, if you don’t speak a word of it, don’t go calling her “Mamacita.” It’s less cute and more awkward, honestly.
As Paola Asencio said in Elite Daily’s article, “Don’t use stereotypical phrases for us, and we won’t call you a gringo.”
This same notion applies to accents and pronunciation. The more time you spend around her and her family, the more you’ll hear correct pronunciation for Spanish/Portuguese words and names.
If this is something new for you, it might feel as though matching this is the respectful thing to do. As pointed out on NBCNews though, you think “… you’re being endearing. But don’t. It is the price they pay for speaking two languages, but you haven’t bought that ticket—you don’t get to take that ride.”
– Contrary to some misguided opinions about meeting women online, this method is so effective and simple in 2020. With these six tips in mind, it’s time to put yourself out there and enjoy the whole experience.
As I said in the beginning, not all Latina women are the same. The term spans a lot of countries and cultures. So take this advice on board, keep it in mind but most of all, focus on getting to know her as an individual.
